Senapati, November 01 2023:
The 2nd Legislative Assembly of All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) for the term 2022-2024 concluded on October 31, 2023, at Tamei headquarters in Tamenglong.
The august house comprising constituent units and subordinate bodies of ANSAM unanimously resolved to resume the suspended agitation on Thursday (November 3, 2023), and to intensify the agitation if the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed between the government of Manipur and ANSAM on October 26 is not upheld by the former.
The MoA, according to ANSAM, centred on the state government promising to restore internet connectivity in the state within five days (three working days), subject to assessment of the law and order situation, and to announce results of 190 (145+45 ST special drive) assistant professor positions to be filled on a contract basis for one academic session on or before November 2, 2023 .
ANSAM is annoyed by the further extension of the blanket Internet ban in the state, which contradicts the agreed point number one of the MoA and breaches the parties' mutual confidence, leading to the decision to impose an economic blockade in all the Naga areas of Manipur from 6 pm of November 3, 2023, until the MoA inked between the Manipur government and ANSAM is implemented.
The students' body also urged the state government to implement the agreed point number two, which is to declare the result of 190 (145+45 ST special drive) posts of assistant professors on or before November 2, 2023, as assured by the chief minister.
In relation to the proposed economic blockade, the ANSAM asked all its constituent units and subordinate bodies to strictly enforce the agitation in their respective jurisdictions in order to resist and fight for the rights and the implementation of the points agreed in the MoA in letter and spirit.
ANSAM also called upon government authorities and the general public for their cooperation and understanding during the agitation.
