Imphal, November 01 2023:
The World Meetei Council has strongly condemned the 'cowardly attack' by suspected Chin Kuki militants killing the SDPO of Moreh, Chingtham Anand Singh and later injuring three more police personnel who were on their way to Moreh yesterday.
Accusing the Chin Kuki militants of inciting violence after a month of relative peace with the attack on police personnel, WMC alleged that Chin Kuki CSOs who support these Kuki militants want and have been demanding removal of State police from Moreh.
In addition, WMC accused the Chin Kuki CSOs of deceptively trying to mislead the world by depicting themselves as natives and the Meiteis as outsiders, said a statement issued by Yambem Arun Meetei, secretary general, WMC.
In this respect, WMC pointed out that throughout history, Moreh has been inhabited by indigenous communities such as Meeteis and different Naga tribes.
However, the Nagas were uprooted in the 1990s by the Chin Kukis "after infiltrating from Myanmar and dominating the areas" and they are now claiming Moreh as their ancestral land, asserted WMC.
At this juncture, WMC questioned why the State Government should not deploy State forces in all parts of Manipur and if "migrants" should be given the right to demand removal of State forces.
Further the WMC drew the attention of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the fact that the latter had, followed by the statements from Central intelligence agencies, stated in the Parliament that it's the illegal migrants "who had come from across the border that is waging war against India" .
Questioning why the Centre has not yet launched a crackdown on these anti-social elements, it commented that the 'all-powerful Assam Rifles in and around Moreh, the border town of Manipur, remain mute spectators till today!'.
In view of such circumstances, WMC further asked if the Assam Rifles are conniving with the Chin Kuki militants to attack Manipur, India.
WMC asserted that the Union Home Minister under whom the Assam Rifles functions, owes an explanation to the people of Manipur.
Lastly, WMC has extended its deep sorrow and condolences to the bereaved family and to the injured police personnel.
