World Television Day 2023 was observed today as a part of golden jubilee celebration of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) .
The observance was organized by AMWJU in association with ISTV, Impact TV, Tom TV & ISCOM at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Information Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh said tremendous changes have taken place in information technology during the past few years.
The introduction of Television had brought a new era in the revolution of information technology.
The popularity of Television in India may be considered to have started during 1982 Asian Games and 1983 World Cup Cricket, he said.
He maintained that Televisions now have changed and become smart with the advancement of visual technology.
He appealed to all working in the field of press and electronic media to circulate only verified news and videos to avoid misinformation that may harm the society.
Bijoy Kakchingtabam, president AMWJU and Khogendra Khomdram, president Editors Guild Manipur shared the dais as the president and the guest of honour of the function.
As a part of the function, live interview sessions with prominent personalities of the State namely AK Khogendra, former Programme Head, DDK Imphal; Heisnam Balkrishna, Director Fishery; renowned singer Dr Hamom Naba; and actor G Bony Sharma was held.
A panel discussion on "How can peaceful co-existence be re-established" was also organised as part of the event.
