Imphal, November 03 2023: Two Kuki militants who fled from their hideouts in Manipur's border town Moreh were killed by the Myanmar Army in an operation at a place near Namphalong market, Myanmar on Friday at around 9 am.

Sources told The Sangai Express that two more Kuki militants were killed in another firing at Khampat, T Minou under Tamu police station.

Two Kuki militants were also arrested in the operation carried out by the Myanmar Army at different hideouts, intelligence sources from across the border said.

Namphalong is a stone's throw away (distance) from Moreh gate number two connecting Myanmar.

Reportedly, a reinforcement team of State police led by DIG Jogeshchandra Haobijam including 11 IRB personnel and seven commandos also reached Moreh today in the evening to intensify the search operation at the border town.

Moreh has been on high alert since Tuesday after the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Moreh Chingtham Anand Kumar was killed and three Constables of a reinforcement team sustained bullet injuries in two separate attacks by militants at the border town.

From time to time, the Myanmar Army too has been fighting against the rebel combined forces of the People's Defence Force (Myanmar) (PDF) and Kuki National Army (KNA) (B) since 2021 .

The armed Kuki people fled from their homestead following relentless operations conducted by the Indian security forces after the killing of the SDPO Moreh (Tengnoupal subdivision) Chingtham Anand Kumar on October 31 .

The attacks against the Kuki militants were intensified in Manipur with the launching of operations at Toulal Village, Laikhot Village, Senjang Village, and Toulal Village.

During the operations, several persons including women and children were verified for finding the killer of the SDPO.

The fleeing Kuki militants are currently hiding at the villages of Khampat, T Minou under Tamu police station in the Sagaing region of Myanmar, the report said.

Meanwhile, around 159 Kuki people mostly women and children are taking shelter near the gate of the 5 Assam Rifles in Manipur's Tengnoupal district for the second day on Friday while majority of those who protested against the deployment of State forces by blocking road at Imphal-Moreh road at Tengnoupal have returned to their native villages.

An Assam Rifles source said that the search operations at Moreh are being carried out with CCTV cameras and other types of equipment for presentation to the public.

It may be mentioned that a combined team of State and Central security forces seized a consignment of war-like stores from the hideouts of Kuki militants at Moreh yesterday.

The items were seized during a massive search operation carried out by State commandos, Indian Reserve Battalion, Manipur Rifles, Assam Rifles and Border Security Force at multiple locations of the border town.

According to police, the seized items include two mobile phones, one DI Tata, six two wheeler vehicles, two bulletproof vests, one camouflage full sleeve, three locally made pipe guns and chemicals used in making gunpowder among others.
