YWU, GDC progress in CC Meet preliminary round

Youth Welfare Union (YWU), Kakching and Ground Development Committee (GDC), Thinungei emerged the victors in their respective matches to progress to the last eight in the preliminary knockout stage-1 of the Babina Group 64th CC Meet at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong on Saturday.
YWU started the day with a 4-3 penalty shootout victory against NERAU FC after the two sides locked in a 3-3 stalemate at the end of regulation time.
YWU dominated proceedings from the word go as they took just seven minutes from kickoff to go ahead of their opponents after Kongkham Langomba Meitei found the back of the net.
Three minutes later, YWU extended their lead through Thounaojam Bebeto Singh before Kshetrimayum Jetlee Singh netted their third goal in the 25th minute.
In a dramatic turn of events, YWU squandered their three-goal lead after NERAU FC reduced the deficit in the 42nd minute courtesy of LT Lowly before they went on score two goals in quick succession through Ngoru Semi Moy-on (46) and Lt Lowly (46), his second goal, in the space on seconds, leading to a 3-3 deadlock through the regulation time.
In the penalty shootout, YWU prevailed 4-3 against NERAU FC with conversions from Kongkham Langomba, Moirangthem Minaketon, Angom Bisan Singh and Shougaijam Jupiter Singh.
GDC, meanwhile, cruised to a 5-1 win over Social Welfare Club, Keirak.
Ningthoujam Arbin Singh opened the scoring for GDC in the 29th minute as Laishram Sundar Singh made it 2-0 in the 46th minute and Pukhrambam Zidan Singh tripled their lead in the 60th minute before SWC pulled a goal back in the 71st minute through Md Samir.
After conceding, GDC got their momentum back with a double from Khaidem Amarjit Singh (77, 86) and wrapped up the victory in style.
