Imphal, April 29 2023:
Claim-ing that the democratic ethos and meaning of human rights will wane in India if the BJP continues to be at the helm of power any longer, Congress Legislative Party leader Okram Ibobi has called for unity among the Opposition parties so as to unseat the ruling saffron party and save the Constitution.
The former Chief Minister also claimed that the freedom of press will be subjected to more threats if the BJP remains in power.
Today, Opposition parties viz; Indian National Congress (INC), Communist Party of India (CPI), CPI (Marxist) and Janata Dal (United) staged a State level Jai Bharat Satyagraha at BT Road in support to the movement initiated by Rahul Gandhi against the alleged nexus between Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP Government and industrialist Gautam Adani in 'looting the wealth of the people' .

Speaking to media persons, O Ibobi continued that the Opposition parties have started working together to protect the Nation and also save democracy and the Constitution from the hands of the BJP.
Maintaining that the BJP doesn't allow people to speak against its Government, Ibobi said that some BJP MLAs who are not satisfied with the adminis- tration of its own Government, however, have started taking the role of the Opposition.
"The leader of the State who once said that BJP forming the Government in 2014 was little late and the country would have progressed much more had the party came to power earlier is a person who has taken lots of benefits from the Congress party," Ibobi said without taking any name in particular.
The former Chief Minister further stated that contemporary members of the BJP praise only the Modi-led Government which was elected to power in 2014 and not Atal Bihari Vajpayee whom many considered as their guru.
Saying that the net worth of Adani Group rose significantly after Narendra Modi was sworn is as the Prime Minister and the nexus between the two was unveiled by an US investment research firm, Hindenburg Research, Ibobi continued that it was Rahul Gandhi who initially demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into Adani Group.
Asking why the BJP Government is hellbent on avoiding JPC probe into Adani issue, Ibobi said that there must be some collusion between the Prime Minister and Gautam Adani.
Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from being a Member of the Parliament for raising the Adani issue, he claimed.
Accusing the BJP of undermining democratic ethos and the provisions of human rights on multiple occasions, the former Chief Minister continued that the saffron party has been interfering with media freedom too.
Former State secretary of CPI L Sotinkumar, on the other hand, said that the beauty of democracy has withered in India which is considered as the largest democracy after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister.
Saying that chaos will prevail in the country if BJP remains at the helm of power any longer, the Left party leader maintained that the agenda of the BJP is to make rich people like Adani richer at the cost of the poor populace.
Prices of essential commodities have risen considerably under the BJP Government, Sotinkumar claimed and sought cooperation from the people in unseating the saffron party.
JD (U) State unit vice president Samuel Jendai also took part in the Jai Bharat Satyagraha.
He said that JD (U) fully supports the movement to end the regime of BJP.
Saying that India may even break apart if the BJP is at the Centre with its anti-Constitutional policies for another term or more, Samuel Jendai maintained that defeating the BJP will not be possible if there is no unity among the Opposition parties.
He then called for unity among the Opposition parties to save the Constitution and the country.
State secretary of CPI (M) Ksh Santa claimed that the BJP has been looting the wealth of the people by colluding with people like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani.
Appealing to all the Opposition parties to work together in the 2024 Parliamentary elections from the grassroots so as to establish BJP-Mukt Bharat and BJP-Mukt Manipur, Ksh Santa said that defeating BJP in both the Parliamentary seats of Manipur is imperative to save the country.
MPCC president K Meghachandra, vice president Hareshwar Goshwami, AICC steering committee member Gaikhangam, deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, Congress MLAs and leaders of CPI, CPI (M) and JD (U) also took part in the Jai Bharat Satyagraha.
