Bidya JAC vandalises in-laws' house in Thangmeiband

Along with launching sit-in protest agitation and road blockade at Ningthoukhong bazar, members of the JAC formed in connection with the death of RK ningol Laishram ongbi Bidya Devi' and other local organisations vandalised the house of the deceased woman's husband at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai on Saturday.
Protesting against the alleged torture and killing of Bidya Devi, the JAC along with Apunba Lup, Ningthoukhong organised sit-in protest at Ningthoukhong bazar.
Amid the agitation, the JAC and Apunba Lup members received information that her husband namely Laishram Rocky and his parents, who were already arrested in connection with the controversial death Bidya, would be brought to Uripok Cheirap Court.
Some of them immediately went to Rocky's house at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai and began vandalising the properties of the house.
The crowd thronged the in-laws' house around 2.30 pm after learning that the police did hot inform them of the accused person(s) being produced in the court.
However, police arrived at the spot and put the situation under control.
The police also arrested some of volunteers of the JAC and Apunba Lup.
The Imphal police station team arrested 16 women who were in the process of vandalising the house.
An FIR under Criminal Trespassing, Rioting and Mischief was registered against the 16 women, who were later released on execution of PR bond.
Meanwhile, the protestors launching sit-in protest agitation at Ningthoukhong, after hearing the news of the arrest of JAC and Apunba Lup volunteers, intensified their agitation by blocking the road at Ningthoukhong bazar and prohibited passing of vehicles along the road.
However, the agitation was brought under control by a women police team led by Bishnupur police station SDPO.
The agitators later marched towards the Ningthoukhong bazar residence of minister Govindas Konthoujam, who is also the local MLA, and shouted slogans.
During the meeting with the agitators, minister Govindas informed that the arrested volunteers of JAC and Apunba Lup have been released and urged them to launch protest peacefully and not to resort to violence.
On the other hand, Nachou Panthong Ward No 6 Apunba Meira Paibi Lup also organised a sit-in protest at Nachou Panthong denouncing killing of Bidya and demanding punishment of the culprits.
On Friday, Thangmeiband United Youth Club and Khongnangkhong Meira Paibi Apunba Lup jointly staged a sit-in protest at Apunba Leikai community hall located at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungbam Leikai demanding justice to Laishram ongbi Bidya alias Devia, who was found dead hanging.
The protestors also called for stopping crimes against women and stringent punishment of culprits responsible for the death of Bidya.
