Imphal, April 29 2023:
Decrying the vandalism on public properties in Churachandpur district, RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand said that everything can be sorted out through peaceful dialogue.
He was attending the closing ceremony of 35th general tournament of Eastern Lamkang Naga Sporting Association at Rindamkhu village in Chandel district on Saturday.
The minister also inaugurated and dedicated to the public a newly constructed community hall of the village on the occasion.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Khemchand asserted that one should explore the possibilities of sorting out differences or dissent through peaceful dialogues.
The government is always open to such peaceful dialogues.
It was unfortunate that a mob vandalised and burned an open gym in Churachandpur district, day before the planned inauguration of the facility by the chief minister, he said while urging for preventing such acts in future.
He further said that the present day Manipur was not built overnight.
The forefathers of the indigenous communities defended the sovereignty and territory of Manipur with their lives.
There is a strong need to have a mutual understanding among the indigenous communities of the state.
Different mediums such as art and culture, cinema, drama, Shumang Leela and music can be used to build unity as there will be no progress without unity, he said.
The minister also delved on a play performed on Khongjom Day and said that name of the play could have been 'Kanglei Lanmeesing' or 'Manipuri Langmeesing' instead of'Meetei Lanmeesing'.
Such small or trivial matters should not be overlooked in order to bring unity, understanding and sense of belongingness among the indigenous communities, he said.
Khemchand further said that the Biren government has been successful in reviving bond of fraternity among the indigenous communities after decades.
This is not just some tall claims but facts.
People can easily understand the situation by looking back to the situation that existed in the state a decade ago, he said while calling for contribution from all sections of the society towards development of the state.
DC Chandel Mayanglam bam Rajkumar presided over the closing ceremony while Chandel MLA SS Olish and MOBC director Ng Bhogendra attended as chief host and guest of honour respectively.
The final football match of the sports meet was played between YST-C and Damjol, in which the former won the match by 3-0 goals.
