Tribal Artisans' Mela held in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, April 29 2023:
A one-day Tribal Artisans' Mela under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs was held on Saturday at the multipurpose hall of Tamenglong district headquarters.
The mela was organised by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd (TRIFIED).
TRIFIED head office (New Delhi) senior manager Vikash Sharma and regional office (Guwahati) deputy manager Pamthing Keishing attended the programme.
Speaking on the sidelines of the mela, Vikash Sharma informed that the mela is being organised under the "Promotion of Tribal Products from Northeast Region (PTP-NER)", a scheme launched on April 18 at Imphal by union minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda in the presence of Manipur chief minister N Biren.
He explained that the Mela aims to mobilise tribal artisans and to make their products available across India.
Any artisan participating in the mela would be empanelled for future purchase order, he added.
The Tribal Artisans' Mela also aims to include marketing and logistics development for promotion of the products of northeast region.
As of now, the PTP-NER programme is planning to organise 60 tribal melas across the northeast to identify the tribal artisans and their crafts, Vikash Sharma further said.
The total capital outlay for particular scheme is Rs 153 crore, basically for sustainable livelihoods generation.
After Senapati, Churachandpur, Kamjong and Noney, the TRIFED held the mela in Tamenglong on Saturday before it moves to Ukhrul district for the same event, Vikash added.
