Imphal, September 07 2015:
Indo-Myanmar border trade carried out through Moreh and Tamu has been severely affected after multiple landslides badly damaged Imphal-Moreh highway.
A huge quantity of supari (betel nuts) imported from Myanmar was lying at Moreh for the past two months as they could not be taken to Imphal on account of the badly damaged road.
However, of late, the betel nuts are being transported up to Bongyang in Shaktiman trucks.
They are unloaded there and loaded in other vehicles for the onward journey to Imphal, said KB Subramaniam of the Chamber of Commerce, Moreh.
BSNL's telephone network was not functioning properly at Moreh since June and it has become totally dead now.
This has further jeopardised the border trade, he added.
