The death toll in mass protest in Churachandpur following the passing of three Bills by the State Legislative Assembly has reached 9.A 19 year-old youth who sustained burnt injuries during the arson succumbed to his injuries at RIMS early today.
Enkhankhup Suante, resident of LV Lane New Lamka, was critically injured when a mob protesting the Bills ransacked and set aflame the houses of 6 MLAs and an MP on Monday last.
The 9 hours relaxation announced earlier by the JAC was cut-short as news about the death of Enkhankhup Suante reached here.
Hundreds of women again resumed their protest demonstration across the district.
In order to avert any untoward incident, the deceased body was brought without prior information.
The victim's body was accoded a hero's welcome when it arrived here around 3 pm by a large number of people.
The rise in the death toll has made the situation more fragile as womenfolk who are now at the forefront of the protest openly expressed their discontentment and deman-ded the resignation of their MLAs.
Questioning if the death of 9 people would go in vain, women protestors marched along the Tedim Road shouting slogans against the tribal Ministers and MLAs and demanding their resignations.
At least one of the over 20 people who are still undergoing treatment at different hospital across the State are still said to be in a critical condition.
