Trade unions seek Govt intervention

With prices of essential commodities, in-cluding petroleum products sky rocketing in the State owing to numerous reasons like trans-portation problem, various trade unions have called for intervention of the State Government.
Speaking to media persons today at the office of Manipur Electricity Employees Union, Imphal, president of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Manipur Branch Y Ranapratap deman-ded that the State Government put an end to the crisis created by black marketers and hoarders.
When there is any form of blockade and transportation problem in both the National highways, traders and businessmen loot the working class people of the society by creating scarcity of basic amenities, he added.
Further, he said that the law enforcing agencies should sincerely work in the larger interest of the public at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Ranapratap also condemned the provocative comments made by the expelled RJD leader Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav that migrant workers from Bihar are being forced out from Manipur.
He maintained that none of the migrant workers from Bihar or from other States of the country were hurt in the recent mass movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State.
"I've talked to the president of Bihar Unit of Indian National Trade Union Congress Chandraprakash Singh telling him that the allegations made by Pappu Yadav that violence was meted against Bihari migrants is false and the union must clarify it", Ranapratap added.

While the State President of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) State Unit M Nara said that the man-made price rise generated by the black marketers must be checked by the authorities concerned at the earliest.
There are various law to stop such activities yet not implemented properly, he maintained.
Condemning such alleged lethargic attitude from the State Government officials over the failure to check black marketing and hoardings, he said that various forms of agitation will be launched with the public if concerned authorities fail to take up any steps within two to three days to stop uncontrolled price rise.
He also maintained that the demand for the implementation of Inner Line Permit system or similar law must not be misinterpreted.
Stating that the demand is not against any community, State convener of Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) Ksh Shanta appealed to all concerned not to spread rumours and mislead the public.
