Imphal, September 07 2015:
Warning the State Government of potential public movement over the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State president and AITUC national vice-president Dr Moirangthem Nara alleged that the current price rise in Manipur is not natural but artificial.
During an interaction with media persons at the office of Electricity Employee Union, Keishampat on Monday, Dr Nara said that general public are now facing severe hardships after traders have indulged in black marketing business taking advantage of the closure of both the National Highways.
Price of petrol has reached Rs 200 per litre in black market and it is not so hard to find out who are taking part in this grey business, said Nara.
What the public distribution minister is doing, asked Nara while adding that the Government has failed to implement laws to check black marketing.
Harassment caused to the common people due to the price rise at this juncture is like looting them in broad daylight, added Dr Nara.
Dr Nara warned that student bodies, civil society organizations, trade unions and political parties could take up a joint intense agitation if the State Government fails to check the price rise at the earliest.
He also said that no non-Manipuris have ever been assaulted in the State and the demand for Inner Line Permit System meant for all the indigenous communities and it never goes against any group in Manipur.
