Imphal, November 26 2022:
In a release, Thoubal Forest Division honorary wildlife warden M Open Meitei informed that greylag geese are frequent winter migrants to state's Loktak lake and other water bodies.
But, since the past few years, their number is declining as their sighting was first reported in the state after a long absence in between 1999-2012, with nine greylag geese arriving in 2013-14 at Ngaikhong, Bishnupur district, it added.
M Open continued that in 2017, 22 greylag geese were sighted at Tangjeng Lamyaipat, but this year only seven could be spotted at the same location on Saturday.
He appealed to the public to protect and welcome the migratory birds.
