Japhou Bazar to shut on November 28

Japhou Village Authority (JVA) has announced that as per the resolution adopted in a public meeting held on Saturday, Japhou Bazar will remain closed from 6 am to 3 pm on November 28, in protest against the plan for dismantling of the old market shed of the Bazar by government authorities.
In a joint release, JVA chief Ng Maipakngam Monsang and secretary W Thamban Monsang stated that the land of Japhou Bazar was donated by Japhou village in 1962 for establishing Japhou Bazar.
The release said that the move to dismantle Japhou Bazar, the land for which was donated by Japhou village elders, without the knowledge and consent of the land donors, is against the sentiment of Japhou villagers as a whole.
As such, the bandh has been called, it maintained while urging all the shopkeepers and public to extend cooperation to the agitation call.
