NESO meet bats for ILP in entire NE, NRC

The 6th General Conference of North East Students' Organisation (NESO), a combined body of eight student bodies of North East states, hosted by Tripura Students' Union (TSU) at Khumulwng in Tripura from November 24 ended on Saturday with the congregation discussing various issues such as effects of illegal immigration, scenario of education, employment and economic development in NE states, etc., along with nominating new office bearers for the term 2022-25 .
NESO new chairman Samuel B Jyrwa and advisor Sinam Prakash Singh conveyed that the confer ence resolved that more proactive steps are needed to be taken by NESO and its member organisations on a war footing in connection with the issue of illegal immigration of foreigners.
It also decided that the Organisation will explore all means to fight against the menace and also press the state and Union governments for working out modalities according to the prevailing situation of the states concerned.
NESO opined that present education system is predominantly a formal form of education and resolved that it should include and introduce job-oriented courses, vocational institutes, traditional values and setting up of more professional and technical institutes in NE states.
The Organisation also demanded Union government to make NE a 'Special Employment Zone', set up regional placement/employment exchange in NE, cent per cent recruitment of local youth in central government establishments of NE states and the NE states should be treated as special economic zone.
NESO also demanded special constitutional safeguard for Tripura with vast federal authority.
Apart from these issues, the conference also reiterated its stand on implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in all NE states; conduct of NRC & re-examination of NRC in Assam; full implementation of Assam Accord (1985); repealing of AFSPA 1958, CAA 2019, special constitutional status over land & natural resources; separate time zone for NE states; declaration of flood & erosion in NE states as 'National Problem'; settling of inter-state boundary disputes and inclusion of Kok Borok, Khasi and Garo languages in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
The newly elected office bearers included Dr Samuijal Bhattachariya as chief advisor, Upendra Debbarma as advisor, Mutsikhoyo Yhobo as secretary general and John Debbarma as finance secretary, among others.
