Imphal, January 05 2012:
Abon Kamei, the former member of Judges panel, Zeliangrong Union of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland extended his warm greetings to all Zeliangrong people on the forthcoming Gaan-Ngai festival 2012 .
A release issued by the former member appealed all people of the State to celebrate the festival with pomp and promoting traditional Zeliangrong Naga cultural entity.
It is also clarified that the meaning of Gaan-Ngai that interpreted by Chaoba Kamsong in his article "Chakan Gaan-Ngai" which was published in The Sangai Express on December 30 was incorrect.
Instead of defining Gaan-Ngai as festival of victory over evils and good will to the mankind with discovery of sacred fire (meaning igniting fire from wooden log and bamboo flint), Chaoba Kamsong, in his article, mentioned that Gaan-Ngai is the festival of a living religious and cultural festival of TRC and also derived as a winter season festival to signify the end and the beginning of the year.
It is an unfounded statement that could ruined the observance of the meaningful festival, added the release.
