Puya Mei Thaba observance in full swing
'Not burning of books, but whole culture and tradition'

Joining the fortnight-long Black Day observance being organized jointly by International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP), Puya Mei Thaba Ningshing Thousil Lup and Meetie National Front (MNF) to commemorate burning of sacred Puyas, many organizations of the state today organized various programmes.
The Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) along with various other organizations observed the Black Day observance at its office at Gandhi Avenue today.
The function was graced by Ng Haridas, President, TDC; Y Lokeshwar, Secretary, Manipur Truck Owners Welfare Association and H Kulamani, Secretary, All Manipur Road Transport Driver and Motor Worker as presidium members.
N Chaoba, Convenor, ICOP and Doren Khaba Nganba, Advisor, All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association were present as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, Doren Khaba Nganba said that burning of Puyas by King Pamheiba under the influence of Shantidas Gosai was not merely burning of ordinary books but the burning of all the culture and traditions of the Manipur society.
The chaotic and disturbing state of affairs that Manipur is is facing at present is the gift of Shantidas Gosai.
With the beginning of a new year, the people of the state should drop all outside religious influence and stick to our own religion and ensure that the burning of Puyas never happen again.

Th Ibohal, VP, TDC observed that burning of Puyas have destroyed the trust and love which prevailed among the people of the hills and the plain.
To revive the lost love and trust among the different communities of the state, the lost Puyas should be rebuilt.
The Puya Mei Thaba observation was also organised and held at Phayoibi Keithel by Khwairamband Keithel Semagat Sagat Lup today.
The functrion was graced by Paonam Ibemu, Secretary, Khwairamband Keithel Semagat Sagat Lup as President.
Anwar Noorjahan, Chief Convenor, ICOP and L Nonghmaileima and Convenor, Sub-Committee were also present as resource persons.
Under the aegis of All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association, the Black Day observance was also held at SDJM Hr Sec School, Kangabam Leikai; Scholar Academy, Heirangoithong; St Stephen English School, Hiyangthang; Down Public High School, Yumnam Huidrom; Pishakmacha Vidya Mandir, Chabung Company and Sanatombi High School, Mayang Imphal.
The students of these schools wore black badges in protest against burning of Puyas.
