Imphal, January 05 2012:
The Naga People's Front would put up its candidates in 12 Assembly Constituencies of Manipur where Nagas are dominant.
In some other constituencies, the NPF may support other candidates, stated NP Manipur unit president Gaingam.
The NPF candidates who will contest the polls in the Assembly segments including Henglep AC in Churachandpur district may be announced by January 9 at the latest.
Stating that NPF would not field its candidates in Saitu, Saikul and Kangpokpi ACs, Gaingam informed that the party has not taken any definite decision about whom the party would support in these Assembly segments.
Negotiations are on to extend support and forge an alliance with the BJP, JD (U) and Trinamool Congress candidates who are contesting the polls in the valley constituencies of Thangmeiband, Wangkhei, Sagolband and Heingang ACs, Gaingam claimed.
The NPF would fight the Manipur Assembly elections on the planks of protecting tribal land and identity, expediting Naga peace process and establishment of an alternative arrangement.
On the other hand, a reliable source informed that the NPF held a meeting at their Kohima office this afternoon and discussed about who would be given party tickets regarding the Manipur Assembly elections.
A final list of the NPF candidates would be announced at Senapati NPF office at 11 am of January 7 and the nominated candidates would be given party tickets on January 9 .
It is reported that in Tamenglong AC, only former Minister Samual Zendai applied for NPF ticket.
As such, he is most likely to get NPF ticket.
