In a first, EC to photograph each voter coming to cast vote

Chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr SY Quraishi has announced that the photograph of all the voters coming to cast their votes at the polling stations will be taken to counter rigging in the coming Assembly election scheduled on January 28 .
Addressing mediapersons at the conference hall of state Secretariat here this evening, SY Quraishi said that the ECI has taken up a number of steps to make the coming State Assembly election a free and fair one.
An official team of ECI, which arrived at Imphal today, has met the leaders of various political parties of the state.
The team has also met the Chief Secretary, Chief Election Officer and other officials of the Income Tax Department.
While meeting with the leaders of the various political today, the CEC emphasized the need to counter bogus voting in the coming election and also to make it a free and fare one.
SY Quraishi also told reporters that all necessary actions will be taken up against those causing disturbances in the coming Assembly elections.
Necessary measures required for beefing up security arrangements along the International border will also been entrusted to the authority concerned.
Stating that intimidation to candidates by any groups will be seriously dealt, the CEO informed that all the Para Military forces requisitioned for the elections will be arriving in the state by January 10.Twenty six special trains for the transportation of election officials have already been reserved.
He further stated that to provide adequate supply of fuel for the transportation of election officials, the IOC will be informed to open a dedicated Petrol Pump.
12 Expenditure Observers, 16 Assistant Expenditure Observers and 18 General Observers have been appointed in connection with the upcoming polls and flying squads and Surveillance Team will be deployed for the election, he added.
Appealing to all the concerned to strictly adhere to the election code of conduct, Dr SY Quraishi said that complaints against some Ministers and MLAs misusing government vehicles have been received and the Chief Secretary has been advised to look into the matter.
Actions will be taken up against those found guilty of misusing the government vehicles, he assured, while reminding the candidates to open their own new accounts in the bank for monitoring the election related expenditures.
The CEC along with Election Commissioners VS Sampath and HS Brahma; Deputy Election Commissioner Alok Shukla and Director Generals Akshay Rout and KK Das arrived at Imphal today.
