Mangka Mayanglambam felicitated

Renowned folk singer Mangka Mayanglambam has expressed happiness on getting the opportunity to showcase the indigenous culture of Manipur through performing arts in Europe.
The folk artist made the statement during a felicitation programme held in honour of Mangka and her father Mangangsana Mayanglambam upon their return after a tour of Switzerland and France from April 11 to 18 organised by Maolkeki Foundation.
The felicitation programme organised by Dr Thangjam Dhabali, Chairman, Classic Group of Hotels was held at Hotel Classic Grande.
Speaking on the occasion, Mangka stated that during the week-long tour, they showcased a live concert of indigenous folk songs and dances at five different locations and organised a masterclass and an interaction programme.

She also commented on the lifestyle of retired senior citizens in the places they visited.
Maintaining that retired people have a lot of hobbies, such as dancing, music, sports, etc thus leading them to have an active lifestyle even at the age 70, she expressed her desire to implement such an idea in Manipur as well.
As a part of the tour, a collaborative session with Enrico Lenzin, a well-known Swiss Alphorn player was showcased resulting in a unique type of fusion music with the use of 'Alphorn' and Manipuri 'Pena' .
Enrico Lenzin also expressed his hope to visit Manipur in 2024 and perform at various festivals of the State, Mangka added.
Aside from this, Angela Sofia Sterzer, a Franco-German artist who teaches Manipuri dance in Paris, also presented performances of Manipuri dance at the concerts held in France.
Dr Th Dhabali lauded the father-daughter duo for showcasing the culture of Manipur on the world stage and expressed his belief that they will get more such opportunities to represent Manipur in the future.
Mangangsana Mayanglambam shared that the tour provided them with a chance to collaborate with European artists.
He also elaborated on the declining popularity of cultural performing arts.
Nirupa Sanjenbam, Head of Projects, Maolkeki Foundation also attended the event.
