In another major drug haul, 3.51 Kgs of heroin powder worth Rs 30 crore in the international market have been seized by police from the possession of an individual.
Briefing media persons at his office today, Imphal East SP Ksh Shivkanta said that one inter-State drug dealer was arrested along with 265 soap cases containing 3.51 Kgs of heroin yesterday afternoon.
Acting on a specific input about transportation of banned drug items along Imphal-Dimapur highway, a combined team of Imphal East commandos and Heingang police took position at Sangakpham and mounted a sharp vigil.
At around 4.45 pm, one SUV (Scorpio) bearing West Bengal registration number was speeding toward Mantripukhri side.

As the police team gave a hot chase, the vehicle had to stop as it was blocked by a tanker at Mercylane crossing, Mantripukhri.
Two persons jumped out of the vehicle and ran away in opposite directions. One of them was apprehended from Mantripukhri Bazar and he was identified as one Md Samir (23) s/o Md Hefajuddin of Lilong Chaobok Mairenkhun.
On checking the vehicle, 265 soap cases concealed in a hidden chamber inside the roof of the SUV were recovered and the soap cases were found containing 3.51 Kgs of heroin, the SP said.
Subsequently, the banned drug item was seized in the presence of a Magistrate and civil witnesses by observing necessary formalities.
On preliminary interrogation, Md Samir disclosed that the seized heroin belonged to one drug dealer from Lilong, and he (Samir) along with his associate took the drug from the dealer to transport the same to Guwahati on the advice of the drug dealer.
Samir also disclosed that he was about to get a sum of Rs 25,000 as transportation charge.
The SP informed that an FIR has been registered at Heingang police station under ND&PS Act and follow up action has also been taken up to arrest other culprits of the case.
The arrested person was also produced before media persons along with the seized drug item.
Later in the evening, the arrested person was produced before a Duty Magistrate, Imphal East and remanded in police custody for further investigation of the case.
