Man held with heroin worth ₹30 cr

A combined team of Imphal East district commando and Heingang police station arrested a man along with heroin worth over Rs 30 crore in the international market on Sunday.
However, another person who came with the peddler managed to escape.
The arrested person has been identified as Md Samir (23) son of Md Hefajuddin of Lilong Chaobok Mairenkhun.
Speaking to media persons at his Conference hall on Monday, Imphal East district SP Ksh Shivakanta Singh informed that a reliable input about transportation of contraband items along NH2 was received at about 4 pm on Sunday.
As such, a combined team led by Imphal East commando inspector Kh Heriery Singh and Heingang police station OC inspector Kh Pathou Meitei carried out checking at Sangakpham.
Later, a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number WB-58BF/6620 was spotted speeding up towards Mantripukhri side.
After a hot chase by the police team, the vehicle stopped abruptly at Mantripukhri Bazar as the vehicle was blocked by a tanker at a crossing, Mercyland Mantripukhri and two people came out of the vehicle and fled on opposite directions.
Md Samir was arrested from Mantripukhri bazar and seized 265 soap cases containing heroin weighing of 3.51 kg.
Upon interrogation, Md Samir revealed that the seized item belongs to one drug dealer from Lilong and on the advice of the said dealer, he along with one of his associates took it from the dealer to transport the same to Guwahati.
He further confided that he was supposed to get a sum of Rs 25,000 as transportation charge.
An FIR has been registered at Heingang Police Station in this regard, the SP informed while continuing that follow up action is being taken up to arrest other culprits.
Moreover, investigation is being carried out to verify whether the Scorpio vehicle is a stolen one or not, he added.
