Laihui team feted, Mangka shares tour experience

Classic Group of Hotels felicitated Laihui team including renowned folk singer Mangka Mayanglambam, who recently showcased Manipuri folk music in Switzerland and France, in a function held at Hotel Classic Grande, here, on Monday.
The reception programme was organised under the supervision of Classic Group of Hotels chairman Dr Thangjam Dhabali.
Sharing her experiences of the tour, Mangka said that she felt immense happiness and satisfaction in getting the opportunity to showcase the rich folk music of the state in front of global audience.
Stating that it was opportunity and milestone in her career as well as boost to her efforts to promote Manipuri folk music, the folk artiste said she does not want to mix culture with competition.
Mangka also informed that the Laihui team was able to give performances of Manipuri folk dance and music at five locations in Switzerland and France during the week-long tour.
The events also had master class and interaction programmes.
In France, Angela Sterzer, who is conducting class on Manipuri folk dance, also joined the programme and performed her piece.
She also got the opportunity to present fusion music of Pena and Switzerland's folk music instrument Alphorn along with renowned folk artiste Enrico Lenzin.
What is more interesting is that Enrico Lenzin assured of visiting Manipur and present his performance, Mangka said, while adding that arrangements will be made to invite the Swiss folk artiste for his performance in the state in 2024.The most memorable and interesting experience of the tour was the interaction with renowned artistes from the two countries, wherein they exchanged their views and experiences, said Mangangsana Mayanglambam, the lead artiste of Laihui.
Dr Dhabali said that he appreciates the Laihui team and Mangka for their achievement of getting an international platform for Manipuri folk dance.
He also expressed hope that the team will continue to promote the folk art form of the state.
Maolkeki Foundation, an organisation working in the domain of agriculture, sponsored the tour.
Its coordinator Nirupa Sanjenbam was also present during the felicitation programme.
