"Livelihood Enhancement of Rural Farmers through Agro and Spice Product Processing and Packaging Unit" inaugurated

Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh inaugurated "Livelihood Enhancement of Rural Farmers through Agro and Spice Product Processing and Packaging Unit" today at Kongpal Chanam Leikai.
The inaugural function was organised by Centre for Rural Empowerment and Development Organization (CREDO) Manipur under the sponsorship of North East Centre for Technology Application and Research (NECTAR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
While speaking at the occasion, Dr RK Ranjan Singh said that providing vocational training to the youths will pave the way for them to become entrepreneurs and job providers instead of job seekers.
He called for cohesive efforts to make the inaugurated unit a place for a vocational training hub by providing training to enthusiastic and aspiring youths and students.
RK Ranjan commended the step of opening the processing and packaging unit with the objective to benefit the farmers of the State who are into the traditional mode of cultivation, harvesting and preservation system by inducting new and advanced technologies helping them to convert the primary products into value added products.
With regards to the establishment of Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) at Imphal, he said that it was established with an aim to create a sense of pride for Manipur and Northeastern India by exploring the abundant natural resources and utilising it for the development of this region which is a rich biodiversity spot.
Maintaining that the State is home to a variety of natural products such as vegetables, fruits etc, Dr RK Ranjan said that if these products are processed properly using scientific and innovative technologies and exported, it will help in improving the economy of the State manifold.
He also sought the attention of IBSD to this matter and help in developing entrepreneurship in the State to benefit the people.
He further stressed on the need of educating the masses of the various welfare initiatives of the Ministry Of Commerce and External Affairs under the aegis of the Prime Minister inorder to become a self-reliant State.
The programme was also attended by NECTAR Director General, Dr Arun Kumar Sharma; Technical Advisor, Dr Krishna Kumar; scientist of IBSD Imphal, Dr H Nanaocha Sharma; founder of XS Retail India Pvt Ltd Pradeep Singh Shekhawat and president of Kongpal Chanam Leikai Development Organization, Thangjam Keshworjit Singh as the presidium members.
