World Photography Day celebrated, expo begins

A 3-day photography exhibition cum sale, titled Mitpham', which is being organised by Royal Photography Manipur in connection with World Photography Day celebration commenced at the DM Commerce ground of DM University from Friday.
Presided over by Royal Photography president Thoudam Jibankumar, the inaugural function was attended by DMU VC Prof N Rajmohon as chief guest and Manipur Amateur Photo Club general secretary Moirangthem Ranjit as guest of honour.
In his speech, Prof Rajmohon said that though Manipur is a small state, surrounded by hills and having poor connectivity, it is globally renowned for its art and culture and sports heritage, in addition to having great potentials in science and technology.
Further noting that the state has made significant progress in photography as well, he stated that a single picture can convey a thousand words, adding that photography is now one of the most illustrious professions in the world.
In Manipur's context, many young people are beginning to show their talent in photography, he observed, while appreciating the efforts undertaken by Royal Photography Manipur till date.
Speaking on the occasion, Moirangthem Ranjit acknowledged that many are taking up photography, either professionally or as a hobby and urged them to consider the commercial aspect of the profession as it is now one of the most peaceful and respectable professions out there.
In all, 200 photographs under different categories are being displayed as part of the exhibition, which will culminate on August 21.Meanwhile, Manipur Digital Photography Society (MDPS) celebrated World Photography Day at HHH restaurant & Resort located at Iroisemba on Friday.
Attending the event as chief guest, chief conservator of forest and MDPS patron member L Joykumar Singh highlighted the importance of photography and urged the people to know its significance.
A photo speaks a thousand words and it can also be used in wildlife protection, he added.
The celebration presided over by MDPS president Konjengbam Jenendro Singh was also attended by Manipur Amateur Photography Club general secretary Moirangthem Ranjit and Manipur Zoological Garden Iroisemba director L Birmangol as guests of honour.
Photography workshop and 5th State Level Photo Exhibition were also conducted as a part of the celebration.
