Imphal, August 19 2022:
Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM), Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) have decided to boycott Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) along with its MLAs with effect from 4pm of August 22 for its failure to clear the election-related advertisement bills.
Issuing a joint press release, the three bodies stated that the decision has been taken after MPCC failed to meet its commitment of clearing the bills despite assurances given on several occasions.
The election related advertisements are running into several lakhs of rupees even though the election was over 3 months ago.
The media fraternity had previously refrained from boycotting the party following assurances given by its president to AMWJU president.
As such, a meeting of the three organisations was conducted and a decision taken that all news related activities of MPCC and its MLAs including advertisements will be boycotted.
The three bodies then apologised for any inconveniences that might be caused to the general public due to the boycott.
