Founder of medical institute accused of raping student

Founder cum managing director of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Porompat has been accused of raping a girl student of the institute while one male teacher and two female teachers allegedly abetted the erime.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, Lamdaibung Social Welfare Club general secretary Kangujam Ibomcha said that SIMS founder cum MD Yumnam Surjitkumar (45) son of Ingba Mangang committed the crime with the help of institute's teachers Sonia Yambem, Kunjarani and SK Wajid Shah.
The victim is a second semester student of echo cardiac course and the crime was committed on August 14, he alleged.
Ibomcha said that Sonia Yambem and Kunjarani called out the victim on August 14 around 1 pm for a picnic to Andro exclusive for the organisers of the institute's study tour.
The victim went out from home in a car along with the two teachers and two family members of Kunjarani.
In the late afternoon, they waited for Yumnam Surjitkumar, who allegedly took the car in which they came.
As it was getting late, SK Wajid Shah offered to drop them home and all of them returned in Wajid's car.
Inside the car, the victim had a soft drink (Sprite) and she lost consciousness after drinking it, he said.
The two female teachers took her in a room in semi-conscious state and the victim found herself in the bed of Surjitkumar when she regained consciousness.
From there, she was taken to another location and she found photo of SK Wajid Shah hanging on the wall, which turned out to be Wajid's home.
Surjitkumar raped her there on that day, Ibomcha alleged.
Ibomcha further said that there is no romantic relationship between the victim and Surjitkumar though the latter had proposed her in the past to which she refused.
Since that day, the victim has been suffering mental harassment from Surjitkumar on multiple occasions.
The victim regarded Surjitkumar as a teacher of the institute and had never dated him, he said.
A complaint has been lodged at Imphal West Women PS on August 15 and the PS registered an FIR on the next day while assuring of taking up necessary legal actions within three days.
However, no actions have been taken up till date, he said, while drawing attention of all concerned to look into the matter and deliver justice to the victim.
