UCM conducts training programme for farmers

United Committee Manipur (UCM) and Agriculture Department jointly organised a one-day farmers' training programme on 'rejuvenation of farm economy' along with distribution of urea and Rabi crops at Yaingangpokpi village community hall on Friday.
In a release, UCM secretary Leisemba Lamaba informed that the training programme was attended by Tellou Chana, Seijang ZP member Amom Jamini; UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam and Yaingangpokpi Village Committee chairman Laimayum Abiram Sharma as the presidium members while Thangjam Ramankanta and Gurumayum Nirmal Sharma were the resource persons.
Speaking at the programme, Joychandra informed that the main objective of the training programme is to enhance crop productivity and made the state self-reliant in food grains.
Urging the food producers to form farmer clubs and avail benefits from department concerned, he also assured that UCM will do the needful to uphold rights of the farmers.
While asking the government to serious look into the shrinking agricultural land and the expanding population so as to take up initiatives to enhance crop production, he opined that economy of Manipur will improve if people of the state consume locally produced foods instead of relying on edibles imported from outside.
As a part of the programme, 100 bags of urea, Rabi crop seeds and sprayer pumps were also distributed to the local farmers, the release added.
