The rally was flagged off from Khangabok Basu Ground by Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) member Kh Jitendra and culminated at Thoubal Mela ground after passing through Thoubal Keithel.
A district level consultation on gender based violence was also held at Mela ground.
MCPCR member Kh Jitendra and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Thoubal district chairperson L Romen attended the consultation programme as the presidium members while Childline Bishnupur director L Pishak spoke on 'Rising Number of Violence against Women & Children and State's Accountability' and State Child Protection Society programme officer Mala Lisham on 'Curbing of Gender Based Violence and Strengthening of Existing Mechanisms' as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, WinG Thoubal director Nonibala Narengbam explained that the rally was organised in order to create awareness among the public on the rising cases of crimes against women and children, which has even created trust deficit among family members.
While pointing out that domestic violence is still a major issue in the society, she regretted that the society is still accepting assault of wives by their husbands as a social norm.
The director also expressed concern over poor conviction rate in such crimes.
