Imphal, December 16 2022:
Personnel of 20 Assam Rifles allegedly assaulted a serving Assistant Commandant of Border Security Force (BSF) and his spouse at Sita Lamkhai in Tengnoupal district, today.
Reportedly, the injured Assistant Commandant and his wife have been discharged from Shija Hospital at Langol after treatment.
Denouncing the alleged assault, Kuki Students Organisation (KSO) has urged the Central and the State Government to take action against the involved personnel of Assam Rifles.
The student organisation cautioned that they will launch a strong agitation if their demand is not heeded.
They also accused the Assam Rifles of harassing the civilians on numerous occasions.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, uncle of the injured BSF officer said that the incident took place this evening while the couple was heading towards Moreh in a Tata Safari.
He said that the injured BSF officer is on vacation.
Saying that the incident took place near the check post of the 20 Assam Rifles, he claimed that the personnel of Assam Rifles shouted at the couple for halting their vehicle beyond the check post.
Further claiming that the Tata Safari hit an electrical post while reversing, he claimed that the BSF man got furious after one of the Assam Rifles pushed his wife during an argument.
"They were beaten severely by the Assam Rifles," he claimed.
He said that the Commanding Officer of 20 Assam Rifles hasn't given any concrete response about the incident.
A complaint has been lodged at Tengnoupal police station.
"We are preparing to lodge a similar complaint to the National Human Rights Commission and National Women Rights Commission," he added.
