Imphal, December 16 2022:
A BSF assistant commandant (AC) and his wife were allegedly beaten up by personnel of 20 AR posted at Sita Lamkhai in Tengnoupal district on Friday.
The husband and wife are presently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospitals, here.
Meanwhile, Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) has demanded stringent actions be taken up against the AR personnel involved in the incident, and threatened to launch intense agitation if the is not fulfilled at the earliest.
On the other hand, officials of 20 AR refused to provide any information on the matter when a team of media persons went to enquire about the incident that reportedly took place around 12 noon on Friday.
However, reports received from the place of incident suggest that the BSF assistant commandant, who is from Churachandpur's Lailoiphai village, is presently posted in Jammu & Kashmir and is now on vacation.
On Friday, along with his wife and other family members, he was on his way to Moreh when they were stopped for frisking at the AR check post located at Sita Lamkhai.
While trying to park his vehicle, the Tata Safari which the assistant commandant was driving, lightly ramped an electric post following which a heated exchange ensued between wife of the assistant commandant and AR personnel.
The report further informed that seeing his wife manhandled by one Naik Subedar Tomar of the AR post, the assistant commandant intervened leading to escalation of tension with over 10 to 12 AR personnel joining the scuffle and beating up the assistant commandant.
The injured assistant commandant and his wife were rushed to Tengnoupal PHC by the AR personnel where first aid was provided and later on shifted to Shija hospitals in Imphal for further treatment.
An FIR has been lodged at Tengnoupal police station in this regard.
On the other hand, KSO, Tengnoupal secretary Danial Mate has demanded halting of all unwanted harassment to passengers along the Imphal-Moreh road by AR personnel by Christmas failing which intense form of agitations would be launched.
Speaking to media persons at Tengnoupal, Danial contended that harassment of passengers by AR personnel along Imphal-Moreh road has been happening uninterrupted for quite long.
Their harassment has even delayed patients coming in ambulance leading to the death of a patient.
The issue of an IPS woman officer being beaten up by AR personnel has not even been solved and now one gets to hear the case of a BSF assistant commandant thrashed and hospitalised, he continued while appealing to authority concerned to intervene and stop the unwanted harassment by AR personnel along Imphal-Moreh road before Christmas failing which intense form of agitation would be launched.
