One Md Habibur Rahaman alias Habi of Lilong Chingjao was reportedly summoned and interrogated by Thoubal additional SP and commando OC for alleged circulation of a pamphlet in social media titled "Miyamda Khanghanjaba" which was presumed to be a public declaration, on Friday.
The post turned viral on social media.
According to police, on questioning, Habibur Rahaman informed that the pamphlets were not circulated by him and that some persons had done it to tarnish his family's image.
While questioning about his association with any drugs business, he confessed to have traded drugs three months ago but after Mohala Committee Lilong gave him a strict warning in a meeting he stopped doing it, the police added.
On being queried about suspects, Habibur opined that the pamphlets might have been circulated by some persons in his locality, the police informed, adding that, in the regard, a complaint has been submitted by Habibur to OC Lilong police for stringent actions against the perpetrators.
Habibur's complaint at Lilong police station is related to a viral pamphlet post, which purportedly shows him claiming intention to continue drug trade to cover the loss suffered in his earlier drug trade due to paying bribe to Thoubal district commandos and anti-drug organisations to secure his release.
Habibur claimed that the pamphlet, which went viral, was not his handiwork and he is not involved in any such illegal activities.
He also said that he does not have any sort of interaction or relation with the law enforcing agencies or anti-drug organisations mentioned in the pamphlet.
It is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his and his family's image, he said while appealing for proper investigation and taking up appropriate legal actions against the perpetrators.
The viral pamphlet purportedly shows Rahaman claiming to have suffered financial loss due to paying bribes to get himself released from the custody of an anti-drug organisation in Lilong and Thoubal district commando after he was arrested by them along with drugs on different occasions.
It further shows Habibur's intention of continuing the illegal drug trade to cover the loss he suffered and asking the government and local volunteers to stay away from him and his customers while cautioning of dire consequences if they intervene.
The pamphlet also printed Habibur's name at the bottom along with the names of his wife and son as well as their address.
