Imphal, December 16 2022:
Stating that Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) has become an association without'any authority, its senior member Suresh Laishram has urged the government to look into the matter and form a recognised interim council to aid efficient functioning of the Association.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday, Suresh recalled that MMTA was formed on September 21, 1980 under the leadership of Rk Ranendrajit with an objective to instill a sense of adventure spirit among the youth and bring about a progressive Manipur.
The association has been conducting different training programmes for the youth, he added.
The future of the association has been derailed as some executives have been indulging in wrongful activities and there are also cases of misusing funds of the association by executive committee, Suresh contended, while informing that a general body meeting and election for electing new executives after the term of president Bijoy Kakchingtabam was held on June 19 in which Dr L Surjit was elected as president along with other office bearers for the term 2022-2025.However, Registrar of Societies, Manipur in a letter sent to the association on August 10 nullified the GB meeting as it failed to achieve a quorum and subsequently cancelled the office bearers elected by the GB.
Yet, the said office bearers continue to hold their respective positions, he said.
Urging the government to look into the matter so that the association could function effectively, Suresh suggested constitution of a recognised interim council before executives of MMTA are elected.
