Imposition of CrPC 144 peeves Mutum Phibou villagers

Following a tense situation in Mutum Phibou area over a road renovation project from Mutum Phibou to Chongtham Kona, district magistrate, Imphal West has imposed restriction on gathering of people and carrying weapons under CrPC section 144.Meanwhile, Mutum Phibou locals have strongly denounced the restrictions imposed in the area and contended that it unreasonable and causing disturbances in free movement of public.
Addressing a press meet on Friday, Mutum Phibou Mahila Mandal secretary Guni Thokchom said that most of the residents of the village are manual labourers and forcing them to stay home is a direct affront to their'livelihood.
There is no instance of any violence in the area to validate apprehension of the district authority.
The restriction has rather created a sense of panic among the people, especially students, she said, while appealing for lifting the prohibition at the earliest.
On the other hand, the district magistrate issued the order following a heated argument between two groups of people on December 13 around 10.15 am.
Around 200 people were involved in the heated exchange of words and there is apprehension of possible violence leading to disturbance of peaceful atmosphere and loss of properties or lives, the DM's order stated while imposing restrictions on assembly of five or more people and carrying gun or anything that might be used as weapon.
The order also imposed restrictions on movement of machineries related with the road renovation project.
