Imphal, December 16 2022:
A 3-day Puya awareness cum exhibition programme, which is being organised by All Manipur Manuscript Custodian Association in collaboration with Chingmeipak Leikai Lup, Heingang Makha Leikai and Kontha Ahallup Social Welfare Club, commenced from Friday.
The inaugural function was attended by Tourism director Waikhom Ibohal as chief guest and Laiphrakpam Khunou GP pradhan Laiphrakpam Firoz as president while Custodian Association president Kangjam Bidhur Khuman, N Khelchandra Singh Charitable Trust, Uripok chairman Ninthoujam Tombiraj and Kontha Ahallup Social Welfare Club president Wahengbam Prem Singh were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Kangjam Bidhur Khuman remarked that although many are calling for preservation of our identity and safeguarding the indigenous population, they seem to be unaware of their true origin and what it is they need to truly protect.
There are talks for preservation of culture, tradition and customs, but none seems to remember the Puya or its importance, he pointed out, adding that no Puya experts are left and as such, any demand concerning the same contains a sense of ambiguity.
Thus, the programme has been organised with the objective of helping the younger generation and the people learn how to read the Puya and understand the teachings written in the manuscripts, he conveyed.
He then said that the Puya-related religious beliefs, royalties, medicine and administration will be put on display during the exhibition period.
