AMUCO delegation meets Meetei Pangal people

A delegation of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) visited Malaya village located along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura and interacted with Meetei Pangal community settled there.
Informing this in a statement, AMUCO secretary (publicity) Laishram Krishnachandra conveyed that the visit was part of AMUCO's initiative to meet and interact with Manipuris living in different states, which began about some years ago.
The AMUCO delegation comprising president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, advisor Yangshoshong Koireng, vice-president MM Thambou and assistant secretary Ningthoujam Loken visited the Meetei-Pangal settlement located in Dhalai district in northern Tripura and interacted with the residents.
The village has around 200 households with an approximate population of 1000.The residents use Manipuri as their mother tongue and still uphold the dress and tradition of Meetei Pangal.
They have been staying there for years even after fleeing their home twice to escape violence in the past, the statement said.
It further informed that the team had a long talk with former chairman of WAQF Board, Kamalpur sub-division and former Mohanpur GP pradhan Mohamuddin (86).The AMUCO delegation honoured the elder by presenting 'Dolaiphi', a traditional dress of Meetei Pangal community.
Meanwhile, a visibly emotional Mohamuddin told the AMUCO delegation that Manipuri Khullang Ishei and songs praising the beauty of Manipur used to reverberate in the village once upon a time but they could not be heard any longer.
