Imphal, July 06 2021:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has charged that the Mount Koubru issue is aggravating due to the Government speaking in two tongues instead of taking a resolute stand on the matter.
In a virtual press briefing, MPCC vice president Wangkhem AC MLA K Meghachandra pointed out that Mount Koubru is a sensitive topic.
Saying that protecting the mountain range under a proper policy programme and finding a comprehensive solution for issues on Mt Koubru is imperative, the MLA urged the Government to do what is required at the earliest.
Instead of taking a decisive resolution, the Government is making random statements on such a sensitive issue, he claimed and asked the rationale of giving commitments to different parties randomly.
Congress endorses the theory that Mount Koubru is the place of origin for the indigenous people of Manipur, he added.
He, on the other hand, clarified that the recent statement of the Sadar Hills Congress Committee which went viral on social media is not a stand of the Congress.
He also announced that issuance of a statement by Congress members pertaining to Mt Koubru in individual, district or block levels is forbidden for the time being.
MPCC general secretary (administration) Hareshwar Goswami, on the other hand, said that removal of Kabak from Kanglashas inside the Kangla was not discussed with the Congress leaders who are members of Kangla Fort Board.
