Imphal, July 06 2021:
CPI, Manipur State Council has urged the government to initiate investigation into the Rafale fighter jet deal by a joint parliamentary committee.
In a release, CPI MSC secretary L Sotinkumar contended that as there are ample signs of corruption in Rafale fighter deal by the Narendra Modi government, left parties and opposition parties including Congress exerted pressure in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to probe the deal by a joint parliamentary committee.
This caused scuffle during the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha sessions in 2019, he recalled.
Even though the government tried to allay the apprehension citing the report of CAG and Supreme Court judgement which stated that there were no signs of any wrongdoing in the deal, Rafale controversy became a core issue in 2019 Lok Sabha election, Sotinkumar maintained.
After the issue was swept under the carpet for two years, France public prosecution service directed to probe the Rafale deal on corruption and favouritism after an NGO in France pleaded for the investigation, Sotinkumar pointed out, while demanding to hand over the issue of alleged corruption to a joint parliamentary committee in the monsoon session of the parliament which is scheduled to begin from July 19 for fair investigation.
