1996 bottles of codeine, 816 kg Ganja seized

In separate incidents, 1996 bottles of 100 ml codeine cough syrup and 816 kg of Ganja were seized from Tata trucks at Leingangpokpi on Tuesday.
A team of Narcotics Cell, Jiribam seized 1996 bottles of 100 ml codeine cough syrup from a Tata truck moving towards Imphal from Assam at Leingangpokpi around 1pm.The driver identified as Alauddin Ahamed (25) son of Garib Ali of Kamrup, Assam has been arrested.
According to police, the team conducted frisking and checking of the Tata truck (AS01KC 7351) and found 20 cartons, which on opening were found to contain boxes of codeine cough syrup bottles.
In all, 1996 bottles 100 ml codeine cough syrup were found inside the 20 carton boxes.
The arrested driver along with the seized codeine cough syrup bottles has been handed over to Jiribam police station for further necessary actions, the police added.
Meanwhile, a team of Lein-gangpokpi police outpost seized 77 packets of Ganja weighing 816 kg from another Tata truck (Ashok Leyland/ WB19 F 7803) coming towards Imphal from Jiribam at the outpost around 8.30 am.
The driver of the truck has been identified as Ashis Ankur (48), son of late Sitai Ankur of Chakdaha village, Birbhum district, West Bengal and the handyman as Bikash Roy (34), son of Jagdish Roy of Barun village, Birbhum district, West Bengal.
The arrested duo along with the seized Ganja has been handed over to Jiribam police station for taking up legal actions.
