Don't make vaccination sites political centres: AMUCO
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, July 06 2021: All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has urged all concerned not to convert Covid-19 vaccination centres into political venues, including trying to incorporate the pandemic as a political issue.

In a release, AMUCO assistant general secretary MM Thambou said that precautionary measures against the pandemic are not to be taken lightly especially with the upcoming polls.

However, the people of the state including the candidates seem to be unreasonably enthusiastic over the polls.

Apart of the strong favouritism culture generated by the candidates and the MLAs/ Ministers, some of them are openly taking advantage of the ongoing vaccination drive as a part of their election campaign.

While on the other hand, sincere MLAs/ministers are being continuously criticised by their counterparts, which in turn is only making the Covid situation in the state worse.

"Covid-19 is a pandemic, not a political issue", he contended.

Commenting on the behaviour of some politicians trying to influence the local clubs which have taken over the vaccination process in their respective localities, Thambou urged for sparing the sincere local clubs which re working to put end to the pandemic and instead consult with the CMOs concerned to encourage more vaccination programmes.

"Any form of political pressure on the locals will demoralise the clubs.

As such, the CMOs should refrain from submitting to such unreasonable pressures", he asserted.

Condemning some of the politicians who are competing to best each other instead of focusing on controlling the pandemic, Thambou urged the politicians, particularly the local MLAs to sincerely assist the people and keep aside all self-interests concerning the polls.

Additionally, the workers of the MLAs/ministers should refrain from making the vaccination centres a hotspot for political discourse.

Meanwhile, AMUCO has distributed edibles and other items to around 5,407 households till date, through coordination with local clubs and villages On Tuesday, AMUCO collaborated with All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), United Clubs' Organisation (UCO) and Rural United Clubs' Organisation (RUCO) in distributing the edibles to 357 households in Imphal West District.

AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, AMAWOVA president Yumkhai-bam Kunjarani, United Clubs' Organisation (UCO), Uripok president A Mukundo and Rural United Clubs' Organisation (RUCO), Lamsang president Lokunjao participated in the distribution.

On Tuesday, edibles were distributed to 22 households in Naoremthong Khulem Leikai under LAKHS pioneer Club area of Uripok United Clubs' Organisation, Uripok; 40 households in Iroisemba Youth Development Club (EYDC) area; 20 in Uripok Huidrom Leikai under Uripok Huidrom Leikai Development Committee (UHLDC) area, 15 households in Uripok Khwairak Selungba Leirak and 9 households in Uripok Gopalji Leirak for the first phase.

For the second phase, edibles were distributed to households in Lamdeng under Rural United Clubs' Organisation (RUCO) jurisdiction; Lamsang Keithel, Laingamkhul, Akham, Kwasiphai, Mayanglanjing, Mana Ingkhol and Phayeng.
