Manipur Education and Fisheries Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh has met Central Ministers and senior bureaucrats of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Fisheries, today to discuss various project proposals of the State.
According to an official source, S Rajan called on Giriraj Singh, Union Minister for Fisheries in his office chamber at Krishi Bhawan and updated the progress of the fisheries sector in Manipur.
Rajen also submitted project proposals for construction of a state of the art wholesale fish market in Imphal and Bishnupur during the Financial Year 2021-22, establishment of brood banks, cold storage, mini feed mills and rejuvenation of Government and fish farms in the State, it said.
The Union Fisheries Minister after a patient hearing assured of all possible assistance for improvement and expansion of the fisheries sector so as to enhance productivity and production of fish and conservation of indigenous fish species, it said.
The meeting was also attended by M Harekrishna Singh, Commissioner (Fisheries), Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Government of India and H Balkrisna Singh, Director (Fisheries), Manipur.
Later in the afternoon, the State Education Minister met Anita Karwal, Secretary in the Ministry of Education at Shastri Bhavan and discussed promotion of Meitei Mayek in school education by providing necessary funding.
The Ministry officials assured of all possible assistance for the proposal as a one-time financial measure.
M Harekrishna Singh, who is also Commissioner (School Education) and L Nandakumar Singh, Director (School Education), accompanied the Minister during the meeting, it said.
Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh, also met senior officials of University Grants Commission (UGC) and initiated the process for recognition of Manipur Technical University (MTU), Takyelpat under Section 12B of the UGC Act 1956 in order to facilitate establishment of a full-fledged technical university in Manipur.
The Vice-Chancellor of MTU and Registrar, MTU accompanied the Minister in the meeting, the source continued.
