Awareness prog on Rabies held

Concerned over the rising cases of dog bites and mad dogs in Pourabi and surrounding localities, an awareness programme on rabies was organised at Gem Public School, Pourabi on Saturday.
The programme was attended by students and residents of Pourabi, Waiton, Wairi, Mani Yaiskul, Sawombung, Huidrom and Nungoi areas.
School principal Janmenjoy Meetei, District Surveillance Officer CMO Pool Imphal East Dr K Photan.
District Epidemiologist CMO Pool Imphal East Y Surjabala, Veterinary officer Imphal East Dr Lakshmi, senior Anganwadi worker ICDS Sawombung Block Konsam Ibechaobi and other staff of CMO Pool Imphal East spoke as resource persons during the programme.
Janmenjoy Meetei said that following the rising cases of dogs going mad.
dog bites and culling dogs, many dog owners have raised con -cents over the well-being of their beloved pets.
Dr Lakshmi informed that the rabies vaccine are being administered free of cost.
She then appealed to all concerned not to kill dogs on suspicion of being infected by the rabies virus as Dr K Photan explained on how to prevent dogs from contracting rabies and going mad.
