Imphal, March 25 2023:
The suspension bridge built over Iril river, connecting Lamboikhul and Tiger camp in Khundrakpam AC, Imphal East is in a dangerous and dilapidated condition.
Tiger Camp Development Committee and Lamboikhul Development Committee spokesperson H Sanjoy has informed.
On Saturday, members of the Committees conducted an inspection of the bridge.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inspection, H Sanjoy informed that the wooden boards of the bridge are all crumbling to pieces.
Two of the metal cables carrying the central weight have cracks, extending up to at least 10 feet, and is waiting to break away at any moment, while some of the other cables have already torn-off.
Sanjoy also recounted incidents of people getting stuck on the bridge and others falling down into the river after the wooden boards gave away.
Although the Committee sought the help of Dolaithabi ZP member N Sanatomba Meetei and replaced some of the boards, many are afraid to cross the bridge due to broken cables.
As such, he urged the local MLA and the PWD department to help repair the bridge at the earliest.
