Discourse on tobacco held

A one-day reconstitution and orientation programme for District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC), District Level Joint Enforcement Squad Team (SDLJEST) and Sub Divisional Joint Enforcement Squad Team (SDLJEST) was organised under the aegis of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) by NTCP District Health Society, Imphal at the conference hall of SP Imphal East, Porompat on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Imphal East DC Kh Diana remarked that despite being aware of the harmful effects of tobacco, many people continue to use tobacco products.
In addition, many shops continue to sell tobacco products within 10km radius of school campuses despite a ban against the same.
Thus, to put an end to all of these, there is the need to change the thinking and mindset of the people, she said and urged for concerted efforts in prohibiting tobacco products.
In his speech, Imphal East SP Ksh Shivakanta said that tobacco has become a common issue and all is aware of the risk of cancer from continuing to consume tobacco products.
As such, he also urged for combined efforts in banning the harmful products.
