Imphal, March 25 2023:
"Green Manipur", a mobile application aimed at assisting the farmers on agricultural practices and in increasing the income of farmers, was launched by Dr R Murugan, director of North Eastern Regional Centre, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ministry of Rural Development, at the Farmers' Convention Centre, Kwakeithel, here, on Saturday.
The launch function of the application, which has been developed by Green Foundation Manipur, was attended by Central Agricultural University ex-dean Prof N Iboton and Green Foundation Manipur chief executive officer U Himmat as members on the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, U Himmat informed that the newly launched mobile application has been developed with the objective of assisting the farmers in the state, taking into consideration the soil and climate conditions of Manipur.
The application is also focused on portraying agriculture as a profitable sector, he conveyed.
Remarking that the biggest challenge is providing a stable source of income for the farmers, he said that they need to be updated with the latest agricultural technologies from time to time to overcome this challenge.
He then said that current soil and climatic conditions are vastly different from the conditions present over 20 years ago.
As there is the need to view the overall situation from a commercial perspective, the Foundation decided to develop the application in the interest of farmers, he added.
