Academy under scanner in corporal punishment case

In connection with the alleged corporal punishment meted out to a stu dent by a warden of Holy Angels Academy, New Impa, Tousem sub division on March 23, authority concerned has been advised to submit a detailed report on the incident within April 3 .
In a letter to the ZEO (Tamenglong), Education (S) director L Nandakumar mentioned about a viral photo and video on social media platforms, in which a warden of the Academy could be seen caning a student, which triggered widespread criticisms from various sections of the society.
The department takes the incident gravely and as such, strict action will be taken up against the school administration, teachers and officials involved, in accor dance with the existing Act and rules.
thus, the director sought a detailed report on the incident, which is to be submitted by April 3 .
On the other hand, a memorandum issued by the Education (S) director mentioned of the brutal thrashing of a student which went viral on Facebook and other social media platforms, which is said to have occurred at Holy Angels Academy in New Impa, Tousem Sub-division on March 23.The photo and a notice informing the expulsion of the student was also found uploaded on Facebook.
Thus, the director instructed the Academy's principal to explain why the school should not be de- recognised in accordance with the existing Act and Rules and also, why Board of Secondary Education (BSEM) should not withdraw affiliation of the school.
The director further instructed the school authority to provide the names of the teachers/officials involved, parents/guardians, addresses and phone numbers, along with the details of the student.
All related particulars of the officials involved and the victim student should be submitted with a detailed report of the incident by April 3, the memorandum directed.
Meanwhile, a suo motu case under FIR No 2(3)2023 TSMPSU/S 325IPC has also been registered.
The victim student is from Niamning village of Tousem Sub-division and the accused warden from Dailuang village.
