Imphal, June 26 2015 :
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has made a formal proposal to the State Government to induct 'State Policy on Private Schools' in order to bring uniformity in all the private educational institutions of the State.
Addressing the media at AMSU HQs, Imphal, president Subhaschandra stated that the student body acknowledges the role of private educational institutions in the State's education sector.
However, the constant concern of AMSU is the fact that the school authorities have been functioning according to their own agenda which has created a gap among the students.
He said that such act of the private institutions is a burden to poor families.
The student body also highlighted the need to have uniformity in admission fees, school fees, transport system, academic calendar, syllabus and curriculum.
Subhaschandra further stated that the authorities concerned should look into the academic calendar of all the private schools and commencement of academic sessions of these schools should be consistent.
He added that a common syllabus for all the schools should be made mandatory and authorities concerned of the State Government should make sure that necessary textbooks are readily available.
Urging the departments concerned to review the recognition given to numerous private institutions, he stated that schools which do not have the necessary infrastructure should be blacklisted by the authority concerned.
He asserted that various schools have commercialized education by selling out their recognition to other institutions and it is very unfortunate that the authorities concerned have not yet taken up any step till date.
Every school must endorse other co-curricular activities for the welfare of students, he asserted.
Speaking on the transportation system, Subhaschandra said that transport vehicles should have a uniform colour so that it is recognizable by everyone.
There should be a definite recruitment policy for the private schools in a unified manner.
Hostel facilities should be mandatory for every school in the State without commercializing it, he added.
