No date for talk with Govt fixed yet: UNC

Imphal, August 09 2026: There is no clear date as yet regarding the talks between the United Naga Council (UNC) and the Government on the prevailing issues.

Earlier, the Government had invited the UNC for the talks in Imphal on August 3.However, the Naga body had requested the Government to change the date as August 3 coincided with the anniversary of the signing of the Framework Agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM).

The UNC has been commemorating the anniversary since 2016.The UNC had also informed the Government that the Naga leaders "find it difficult" in traveling to Imphal for talks due to the prevailing situation.

As such, the UNC had requested the Government to hold talks in Senapati district headquarters.

Talking to Newmai News Network from Senapati this evening, UNC president NG Lorho said they are yet to receive further information from the Government till date regarding the proposed talks.

Following the killing of six Nagas, the UNC had submitted charters of demand to the Government.

The talks will be on these charters of demand, he said.

The mortal remains of the six Naga men are still lying in the mortuary of Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal since June 10.The United Naga Council (UNC) is determined that the "mortal remains of the six Naga hostages will not be received until and unless the charters of demand are addressed and justice is done for the families of the murdered hostages by the Government of Manipur and the Government of India" .

The UNC accused the Leilon Vaiphei villagers and the Kuki National Front (KNF-P) militants for the abduction and killing.

The UNC has been demanding the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with all Kuki militant groups.

It has also demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of all Kuki National Front (KNF-P) cadres involved in the abduction of Naga civilians including two Pastors on May 13, 2026, at Leilon Vaiphei village and the subsequent "cold blooded murder" of six of them, and also for the murder of Wilson Thanga Chiru at Joujangtek on the same day.

Further, the UNC has been demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of Lalboi Vaiphei, chief of Leilon Vaiphei village, along with all individuals involved in the abduction of the Naga civilians.

The UNC also demanded the declaration of Kuki National Front (KNF-P) as a terrorist organization.

Removal of Nemcha Kipgen from the position of Deputy Chief Minister, is another demand raised by the UNC .

Nemcha is the wife of Semtinthang @ Thangboi Kipgen, president KNF-P, a Kuki militant group "who is complicit in the murder of the Naga civilians mentioned above".

The UNC said this will restore the public trust and confidence in the State Government.

"Her continuation in office will amount to wilful compromise of the integrity of internal security concerns of both the State and the Nation at large", it added.
