Kangpokpi, August 09 2026: Distancing itself from Chief Minister Yumnam Khem-chand Singh's visit to Kangpokpi on August 8, 2026, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has categorically that the engagement (with the Chief Minister) carried "no mandate" from the Kuki people and would not be allowed to dilute their political demand for a Separate Administration.

In a public statement issued a day after the Chief Minister's visit to Kang-pokpi, KIM clarified that it was "neither a party to nor involved" in the visit and said the Chief Minister was invited by certain district-level civil society organisations.

The actions of the concerned district CSOs must not be construed as representing the collective position, consent, or mandate of KIM or the Kuki people, the statement said.

KIM said it would not compromise, dilute, or barter away the political aspirations and collective interests of the Kuki people for temporary engagements, personal interests or political expediency.

KIM also urged the Kuki public to remain "clear, vigilant and united", warning that the community's political aspirations "cannot be undermined through such isolated engagements or unilateral actions" .

An outreach visit to Kangpokpi may open a door for dialogue, but it does not constitute political consent, and no district-level engagement can speak for the collective Kuki mandate, KIM said.
